Hahnscratch is an exploration of self. My self. It is an attempt to shed the shame associated with being labeled according to the worst moments in my life. It is a project to overcome my fear of visibility and to be fully transparent while, hopefully, providing a unique insight into the world behind the walls.
Hahnscratch is one man’s perspective. My perspective. It makes no claim to absolute truth. It presumes that all people living in jails or prisons have unique histories and trajectories which cannot be encapsulated within the catch-all terms such as ex-con, felon, or prisoner. By telling my story, I hope to open the door to an understanding that all incarcerated people have a story, as well.
